Burnout: temporary fashion or diagnosis?
Within the society the burnout syndrome will often interpretated
as a stigma.
Without any binding definition, the term burnout is often
managed as a medical diagnosis despite the fact that the
burnout syndrome is according to the ICD-10 classification
not an own diagnosis.
The burnout syndrome induces directly and indirectly
high costs for the community. Different models try to describe
the course of the burnout syndrome, but it exists no
homogenous cycle of this disease. Patients affected by the
burnout syndrome may suffer from depressive or anxious
symptoms, from sleep disorders, chronic pain syndromes,
fatigue or functional disorders of the gastrointestinal
system. This paper reviews all the scientific concepts and
the clinical aspects of the burnout syndrome and gives an
current overview about the various aspects of prevention,
diagnosis and therapy.
