Breast cancer: screening, diagnosis and therapy – part 1

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. More than 80 % will be healed after treatment. Mammography screening exists all over Germany. Efforts are needed to get higher attendance rates. Hereditary breast cancer plays a role in 5 % to 10 % of the patients. There are 15 specialised university centres for hereditary breast cancer which guaranty high level of communication risk factors and offer screening procedures for participants. Diagnostics and therapy for breast cancer is regulated through national S3 and AGO Guidelines. The treatment for primary breast cancer is multimodal and a combination of local-regional and systemic therapy setting. Standard potent treatment regimes are proved for efficiency against new combination in randomised studies. 273 certified breast cancer units all over Germany guarantee quality of supply of high level. The main goal of the German cancer society for the last 10 years is to get better care through building up specialized cancer centres.
