Abstract

HPV testing, new pap smear methods

The screening cytology successful decreases the incidence of cervical carcinoma. Persistent high risk HPV is the most important factor for the development of cervical lesions, but also vulvar and vaginal lesions. Because of the long asymptomatic interval should the early detection of pre cancer lesions be possible. HPV testing, new pap smear methods and colposcopy optimize and individualize the management and help to avoid overtreatment. Call- and recall-systems and incentives could improve participation rate. Large loop excision of the transformation zone seems to be the best treatment for cervical lesions.
