Prenatal care

The objective of prenatal care is the detection of risks for mother and child, in order to achieve the best possible outcome for both. Prenatal care in Germany follows the maternity guidelines (last update 2011). This article discusses the resultant medical care as well as recommended deviations or extensions of the guidelines referring to professional associations and experts. Among other things, aspects concerning individual examinations, lifestyle, risk constellations, infections and nutrition are described and discussed.
