Haemostaseology for Gynecologists

Coagulation disorders play an important role in various fields in gynecological practice. Knowledge of risk factors for thromboembolic events or risks of thrombophilia is essential for safe hormonal treatment. The advice and support in situations of risk and the appropriate prevention and treatment of coagulation disorders are an everyday challenge. For differential diagnosis of bleeding disorders, unsuccessful fertility treatment, recurrent abortions and other pregnancy complications hemostasis plays a significant role. Thromboembolic events still provide a key cause of mortality in the context of pregnancy, cancer or surgical procedures. The following article summarizes current knowledge and recommendations for diagnosis and treatment of coagulation disorders with a focus on obstetrics and gynecology.
