Doppler sonography

There are various options of fetal intrauterine monitoring during pregnancy. CTG and fetal Doppler sonography are well established as a standard procedure in clinical practice. Based on the paper »evidence based fetal assessment« from the last edition, this review describes the current concepts on the use of Doppler sonography in the settings of maternal and fetal disorders. If reasonable, both methods can be compared to each other. Beside physical and technical principles, characteristics of the relevant vessels are introduced. Based on typical clinical diseases, the importance of Doppler sonography is discussed and each is illustrated by case presentation.
