Specific dermatoses of pregnancy

Complex endocrinologic, immunologic, metabolic and vascular changes associated with pregnancy can lead to various skin manifestations which can be classified as physiologic skin changes, alterations in pre-existing skin diseases, and the specific dermatoses of pregnancy. This article focuses on the specific dermatoses of pregnancy which have been recently reclassified. Epidemiology and pathogenetic background, clinical presentation, diagnostic measures and therapy will be discussed for each entity and an algorithmic approach to the pregnant patient with pruritus will be presented.
