Nausea and hyperemesis gravidarum

Nausea gravidarum and Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) are multifactorial disorders which are commonly seen in the first trimester. After exclusion of endocrinological problems, especially a thyroid dysfunction, the beginning of a multimodal therapy is indicated. This article outlines different theories regarding the pathophysiology including the psychological aspects and examination of women with HG. The authors give a proposal of a five step regimen based on evidence based criteria.
